VE Day 70th Anniversary
The 70th anniversary of VE Day falls during the SATS period. However, later in the summer term would be a good time to mark and celebrate this key event in our nation's history.
In response we are developing a day of cross-school activities and stories that will give children an idea of the war that Britain had to fight. From the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, to a tank duel in Normandy, and from the code breakers at Bletchley Park to SOE operations in occupied France, we'll provide a real taster of WWII.
This can lead into a VE Day street party(we'll provide a plan of how you can run your own) where the pupils will have a much better understanding of what the celebrations were all about.
Below are a couple of example activities
Luftwaffe or RAF? Learn to identify aircraft at an anti-aircraft gun in 1940.
Woytek. Hear the remarkable story of the bear who became a soldier
